Party until dawn. Hike at sunrise. Laze on a beach for seven days straight. The Canary island of Tenerife deserves its reputation as one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe – there’s something to keep everybody happy here.
The buzzy bars and resorts are mostly clustered around the island’s south, where you can also shriek your way around Siam waterpark in the morning and build sandcastles on the beach by the afternoon. Venture inland and the volcanic island takes on a different vibe, with Pico del Teide, Spain’s tallest mountain, providing a dramatic moon-esque landscape and excellent stargazing.
Elsewhere, sun-dappled villages like La Caleta are just the place to relax over seafood paella, or the capital of the island, Santa Cruz, in the north-east combines a winning combination of sunbathing, shopping and sightseeing – whether you’re perusing boutiques on Calle del Castillo or marvelling at an exhibition at the very cool Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
