Hogmanay in Edinburgh

DECEMBER

EDINBURGH
Hogmanay (the Scots word for New Year's Eve) has many curious customs, none so famous as the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Every year, Edinburgh - the home of Hogmanay - hosts a four-day festival bursting with live music, bonfires, art, cinema, carnival, a torchlight procession and firework display. And, of course, the huge street party! After celebrating all night, those brave enough participate in the Loony Dook, which involves running into the icy waters of the Forth Estuary, usually for a good cause. Over a million people will head to Edinburgh to count down the last seconds of 2011, so remember to book your accommodation early. edinburghshogmanay.org
