LONDON
The British capital gained another environmentally conscious luxury hotel last month with the opening of Hotel Rafayel in the often-overlooked neighbourhood of Battersea. One of the few hotels in the world to combine five-star service with cutting-edge green technology, Hotel Rafayel features superior service, stylish surroundings and unsurpassed comfort; a tall order pulled off with aplomb by property developer Iqbal Latif.
The hotel is an integral part of the Falcon Wharf and Nine Elms regeneration project. Its striking design incorporates four unusual L-shaped wings ascending outwards from the centre of the building, within which are 65 spacious rooms tastefully decorated and kitted out with the latest technology.
Its eco credentials include energy-saving LED lighting throughout, a strict no-plastic policy and a state-of-the-art ventilation system boasting up to 70% heat recovery efficiency. Most impressive, however, is the carbon footprint each guest creates: just 17kg for each night stayed in the hotel, as opposed to an average of 70kg a night if staying in another London hotel.
