The Spotlight
Carla Chameleon
After a shotgun wedding to one of the most powerful politicians in the world, leggy Italian singer Carla (was Bruni, now Sarkozy) has become an ambassador of style. Her fashion renaissance, showcased at various high profile functions, has seen her dressed head to toe in new season Dior and looking uncannily like Jackie O. She may be polished to first lady perfection now, but she's also the woman who paraded half naked down catwalks for ten years, had wild affairs with rock stars and left her philosopher husband for his own son-hardly the epitome of demure. Carla has copped on to the fashion industry's longing for a royal style icon to replace Diana, and we've all fallen under her spell.

Women
The Great Denim Debate
When it comes to jeans, there's usually a myriad of choice, but this season there are really only two options; ultra tight skinny jeans (yawn) or wide as you like flared jeans (yay). Whichever cut is in-keeping with your wardrobe, make sure they're blue; grey denim is so last season!

Men
Say it with Flowers
The big menswear print this season is floral but it's a tough trend master (you may end up looking like the missing member of the Village People). The trick is to go for retro prints and wear them strictly on shirts-floral shorts are more along the lines of YMCA than cutting edge fashion.

THIS MONTH'S FASHION CAPITAL
Going Dutch
Clunky, hard-to-wear and the inspiration behind the most vulgar footwear craze of the Millennia (Crocs); who would have thought clogs would find their way back on to the fashion radar? Luckily, this season's takes on Holland's national dress errs more on the side of subtlety. This time it's namely a menswear trend, so men, opt for your clogs in breathable leather like these from classic brand Birkenstock. Wear with cropped or rolled up trousers เ la agn่s b's boys. And women, there's always a pair of loafers Black clogs, 195, agn่s b, www.agnesb.fr; Boston clogs, 75, Birkenstock, www.birkenstock.com
