Tel Aviv Trivia

  • May: Tel Aviv is home to the world's largest diamond exchange, and visitors can get a free four-hour tour, including major city highlights, from the Israel Diamond Centre Sunday through Thursday. Hotel pick-up included; hard sell only to be expected.

  • April: Bread is a no-no in most hotels and many restaurants during the 10 days of Passover, when it's replaced by matzo - a delicious unleavened flatbread that comes diced and scrambled with eggs into matzo brei.

  • March: Tel Aviv is dubbed The White City as a nod to the collection of pre-war Bauhaus buildings lining Rothschild Boulevard - even though many are crumbling and have not seen a lick of white paint for decades.
