Shopping: The Harley Davidson shop in the La Strada shopping mall, Nabq, sells a wide range of branded clothes and accessories for men, women and kids.

Sightseeing: Enjoy a round of golf in guaranteed sunshine at the 18-hole PGA Championship course located at the Jolie Ville Golf. On-site facilities include a driving range, practice areas, lessons, equipment rental, clubhouse and the 19th Hole bar and restaurant (tel: 069 360 3200).

Key areas: Running the entire length of the main beach in Na'ama Bay, the promenade is lined with a wide selection of bars, restaurants and shops to suit all tastes.

Day trips: Hidden away in the mountains of south Sinai is St Katherine's Monastery, the oldest Christian monastery in existence and the smallest diocese in the world. Longwood organises the two-hour trip north of Sharm (tel: 069 360 2236).

Sharm el Sheikh Trivia

  • March: In September 2009, Natalia Molchanova set a new world record in Sharm el Sheikh by free diving on a single breath to a depth of 101m.

  • February: The Red Sea contains more fish species than any other body of water the same size.

  • January: The Multinational Force & Observers (MFO) is an independent, international organisation created to uphold the 1979 Treaty of Peace between Egypt and Israel. The MFO's South Camp is centrally located in Sharm el Sheikh, and houses soldiers and military personnel from 11 different countries.
