This Month in Naples (February):
By Tui CameronShopping: A mecca for chocolate lovers, Gay Odin has something to suit all tastes, including a chilli-flavoured blend and the salty foresta, which looks like tree bark (61 Via Benedetto Croce, tel: 081 551 0794, gay-odin.it).
Sightseeing: Organ music always sounds best in a church. Stop by the lovely one in the Vomero district to experience the free concert at the Chiesa dell'Immacolata on 14 February at 7pm.
Key areas: Although the name Capodimonte has become synonymous with Naples' famous ceramics, the name literally means "top of the hill", which, in fact, it is. The Royal Woods make for a lovely stroll, and the nearby Catacombs of San Gennaro are another must-see.
Day trips: Take a day trip to the intriguing Greco-Roman temple ruins of Paestum. Pack some snacks and hop on a train to Salerno, then another from Salerno to Paestum. The trip takes around an hour-and-a-half in total.

Presepe nativity scenes in Naples
Naples
While Santa and his elves have changed the face of Christmas forever, in Naples some traditional fixtures are still central to celebrations. Each year, intricately crafted presepe (nativity scenes) are displayed throughout the streets of the Italian city, including along the Spaccanapoli, reliving the scene of Jesus' birth and reminding onlookers of the reason for the season. Look closely, though, and you will see some modern additions: who knew Barack Obama was around in Biblical times?
