Key areas: Visit Bodrum's Marina to see how Turkey's other half live. This is the place to see and be seen while shopping in designer boutiques or sipping a coffee or a cocktail in a swanky bar.

Bodrum Trivia

  • May: Bodrum's waterfront road is named after Neyzen Tevfik, one of Turkey's favourite writers. This poet and flute-player is one of the town's most famous sons.

  • April: Haggling is all part of the fun when shopping for souvenirs in Bodrum's bustling bazaar. If you're good at bargaining, then expect to pay around half the asking price. Glasses of tea are thrown in for free.

  • October: Bodrum is the birthplace of history as we know it. Herodutus, author of The Histories, considered to be the "Father of History", was born some 2,500 years ago in Halicarnassus, which was the ancient name for Bodrum.
